So far this week

This week has been pretty busy already, and I’m only two days in…

Monday was the usual lecture madness, although fortunately I didn’t have to stay behind to 5pm for software engineering because that’s every other week. Fortunately we moved on to a new topic in databases (at last, no more keys/normalisation!) although said topic happened to be SQL so it didn’t really get more interesting.

Of course Mondays also mean Warped, so off to the Burlington we went come 7:30pm. Her Royal Beeness came up from Oxford at short notice (as in about 8 hours) and is apparently making a return visit next week. Like last week though, I felt a bit isolated at the Burly (everyone seems to hang around the pool table, perhaps I’m giving off bad vibes or something, I don’t know) so it wasn’t all that much fun. Hopefully next week I’ll feel more cheerful at the end of it, if only because we’re going to FAB afterwards and that means another hour or two of drinking. 😉

My DVDs arrived today from Amazon—Red Dwarf Series VI and the Rocky Horror Picture Show (it was about a third of the price it should have been, and I would have had to pay postage if my order wasn’t over £19 so I thought after the house party I’d keep it on my shelf). Unfortunately this means that I’ve already wasted over an hour watching several Red Dwarf episodes, so I’ve had to put the DVDs away for the moment in order to get on with some real work. 🙁

Tomorrow is my second graphics lab, although fortunately it’s all OpenGL and C so I should be ok, if only because imperative programming is the only part of my course other than databases that I feel confident in at the moment.

I also have an interview with my tutor tomorrow to discuss my exam results, which I’m not really looking forward to. He already asked me last semester why they didn’t make me resit an exam in the first year because I only got 23% (or something in that region). Thing is, I looked on the exam board today just to double check (not that I don’t trust Kirk’s reporting, but apparently these were “updated results”) and I had done worse than a lot of people, including most of my software engineering group by the looks of it. Ah well, it’s too late to rectify this now, I’ll just have to hope for the best in the next lot of exams, although at the moment I’m not getting my expectations too high because I’m already stumbling in the first graphics lab (having trouble with the physics and maths). My major worry is that my exam technique is terrible—I just find my mind goes a blank or I know the answer but I can’t seem to put words to paper fast enough.

In good news, Rogue Students is now coming along nicely, with 24 members and nudging the 1,200 post barrier in under two months. Not bad if I do say so myself. Several people I know are also doing well (especially in the area of jobs and relationships) so that’s nice, even if it doesn’t help me directly. I’ve also started reading fiction again and am enjoying reading the first Dune book by Frank Herbert.

Anyway, I’ve wasted enough time writing this and watching DVDs, so I must get back to the grindstone and finish my Architecture Design Diagram (and yes that is as boring as it sounds).

  1. I know why you were at the other side of the room, I don’t know what you were gossiping about though, unless they were one and the same thing. and I have no idea about this week (though I can make a shrewd guess).

  2. I told you what we were gossiping about! And it wasn’t Warped related.

    >Her Royal Beeness

You know on reflection I’m a bit worried what I get called in this naming scheme of yours. 😉

  3. Oh, I think I know now, although I’m not sure and as usual I’m confused. Plus I can’t remember back to two weeks ago, or even last week really. No doubt you will be gossiping about something completely different tomorrow anyway. 🙂

You know on reflection I’m a bit worried what I get called in this naming scheme of yours.

Do I detect the slightest hint of paranoia there? 😉

Why would you be worried though? None of the names are offensive as far as I know, nor are they implying anything really.

  4. Nah, I’m afriad Lizzy is having too much fun winding me up so the topic is likely to be the same.

Who says you guys get the monopoly on paranoia? And all I know is the names I hear arn’t offensive!

  5. What’s there to wind you up about though? I can only think of one thing and that’s not really something you can wound up about.

Who says you guys get the monopoly on paranoia?

You probably said something along those lines at some point. 😛

And all I know is the names I hear arn’t offensive!

You are probably the only person who has heard them all though. 🙂

  6. No – not ignoring you – pool was fun though – I know the whole split thing that sometimes happens – maybe we need activities for all of us to do…sticky toffee anyone?!
