I want to be a Broadway producer

New Year’s Eve

Last week’s events were a bit less hectic than 2004’s version, although I think that was down in part to me not having to worry about getting the house ready and having various (non-)alcoholic beverages available for consumption. The evening started off with most of the remaining members of Warped heading off to Kro, only to end up in The Oxford as it was actually open (Kro for some reason was closed from the 23rd December until New Year’s Eve). Some people from UA also turned up, and we had a good laugh, although the only beer that was vaguely drinkable (and I use that word very loosely) was John Smith’s. 🙁

People drifted off from the pub at about 9pm, at which point Cez and I went over to Justine’s house party. There were only four of us there, but we had a laugh watching some old Doctor Who stories (Genesis of the Daleks and The Sontaran Experiment) and cringing at how bad some of the acting/plotlines were. Jules Holland provided us with some entertainment to see in 2006, although Cez was somewhat disappointed when KT Tunstall appeared on Jules Holland’s Hootenanny and she was immediately mocked for looking about fifteen.

The Producers

Yesterday afternoon I went round to Justine’s house, she’d made us some vegetarian spaghetti bolognese, which was delicious. I didn’t really know what to expect because I don’t eat vegetarian options very often (although I have been eating more and more of them in the last couple of months), but whatever was used instead of meat (can’t remember the name, don’t think it was Quorn though) was a good substitute because I couldn’t taste much of a difference. I don’t think I could be a vegetarian full time though, I’d miss bacon butties and chicken curry too much for a start!

After tea we saw The Producers at AMC, and it was absolutely hilarious. I don’t think I’ve laughed that much whilst watching a film since I saw Madagascar and Bewitched during the summer holidays. It was a superb mix of satire and political incorrectness, although you had to be reasonably clued-in to understand all the references. I don’t think the rest of the audience knew what was going on though, because we seemed to be the only ones laughing at some point. Even better, Justine had a two for one ticket and a Movie Watcher card, so we got in for half price and had a free large drink and popcorn to share as well. 🙂

On the way back we stopped at Scubar, as Justine wanted to ask about booking rooms for her forthcoming birthday party, but it was closed so we ended up in Kro instead – which was open for once! The hot chocolates we had were really nice, although combined with chocolate cream, marshmallows and a piece of chocolate cake I’m surprised I didn’t have a massive sugar rush surge through me. We ended up talking at the corner near Tesco as usual on the way home, and bumped into Jon and Tim as well.

As for today, I’ve not really got much done unfortunately. I’ve been finding it really difficult to get to sleep recently, which means waking up much later to compensate and once I’ve got washed and dressed half the day has already gone. It’s probably all the bouncing back and forth between different places over the holidays that’s done it, so I’m hoping I’ll get back to normal in the next couple of days.

  1. Could I just clarify that I was dissapointed with the commentary about KT Tunstall, not the woman herself.
    grin

  2. Thank you! Let me know if you want the recipe. It’s great stuff, I got 6 generous portions out of it, can’t have cost more than about £3 for the lot.

I’m also having massive lack of revision-ness. I blame the weather.

  3. I think I’ll have to get the recipe from you at some point, perhaps I can try making it next weekend when I have a little bit of time on my hands.

I blame not being interested in most of the subject material for my lack of revision. :/

  4. So what was this mysterious meat substitute that was so nice?

I prefer quorn pieces/mince myself, as supermarkets own versions can taste kinda rubbery, and are so over-processed.

  5. I don’t know what the meat substitute was, I think Justine said it was something from ASDA, perhaps their own version or something. I don’t really know much about meat substitutes in general so I can’t even guess as to what it might have been. 🙂

  6. I know what you mean about being the only one laughing at The Producers – of about 30 in the screen, during all the Springtime for Hitler bit there only seemed to be three of us laughing – same with some other bits.

But it was one of the best films I’ve seen for a long time. I loved every minute of it. Comedy and a Musical. Perfect 🙂
