Unfortunately that image is so obviously Photoshopped. :)

I wouldn\'t mind getting inside a Dalek costume and going exterminating a few protestors though, starting with that Geldof idiot. ;)

I can\'t think of anything amusing to say for that Indymedia article though.

Drupal is overkill for my blog, I don\'t need the vast majority of the features it offers and the ones that I do like I\'ve either already implemented or know how to.

* Cuts - not too bothered about these, and I\'d never remember to use them anyway
* Multiple RSS feeds - not sure what you mean by this, but there are Atom and RSS feeds available for the latest 10 entries
* Comments RSS feeds - not exactly difficult to implement, I could probably knock them up this weekend if people want this feature
* User accounts - bit more tricky, but still feasible, and something that is on my list of things to implement

Besides, half of the point of writing my blog from scratch is to learn more PHP and SQL, if I just took Drupal and installed it I\'d miss out on all that.

Paul, seriously, try installing Drupal in your CompSoc webspace. See how quickly you can get a basic blog setup, with \"cuts\", a good search, multiple RSS feeds, comment RSS feeds, accounts for people that want to receive notification of new comments (me!), etc. The thing you\'d spend the most time sorting is the importing of your existing entries -- but there is a module that supports importing CSV entries, so that won\'t be hard.

By the looks of it your permalinks are also exactly the same as mine (bar - instead of _) so they\'re no problem either.

Just give it a go :)

It\'s not exactly a complex thing to implement - I could do it, so you definately could!

I know what the effect is, as I mentioned already. What I don\'t know is how they\'re implemented or how to go about integrating such a feature. Besides, I doubt I\'d ever actually use them -- even the extended entry things on blogs annoy me most of the time.

Anyway, site search is on my list of things to get done this weekend.

<blockquote>I’ve no idea how LJ-cuts work, so adding support for them would be a bit difficult (I can see the effect, but I don’t know how they actually get generated/parsed).</blockquote>
Basically, anything inside the tags gets put on the individual entry page only, topped by some form of a name attribute.
Of course, although this LJ way of doing it is more flexible as you can have multiple cuts, MT for example has a Body Entry box and an Extended Entry box, allowing you to place either, wherever you like.

Just as well I checked to see how long it was before I read too much :-). Maybe read up on your autobiography when I have a few hours free time.

Site search is on my todo list, and I\'ll probably have some way of listing the last 20 entries just with titles/comment counts or something as well. I\'m more likely to implement those than some weird system used by LiveJournal anyway.

\"find an old post without having to keep one’s finger on the page down\"

Whoa... hold on there. If you\'re doing that there has to be something wrong with you. Two solutions:

# Google for what you want and append site:roguetory.org.uk
# Search within the page using the browser\'s search facility (/ in Firefox)

Now, that requires that you have some vague idea of a word that was in the entry. But that shouldn\'t be a problem.

Of course, Drupal (www.drupal.org) has a really great search included.
